Our esteemed geography expert is Roger Sherman, who has spent much of his life addressing the legal issues encountered by workers in the ports and waterways of Louisiana as a local lawyer practicing maritime law. Check out his new site. His clients tend to be those injured badly enough to warrant hospitalization as well as additional therapy. Using his lawyerly skills with large databases, Roger was able to compile our city lists pretty effectively, although he warns us (as lawyers are wont to do) that the lists are only as accurate as his sources, which include but are not limited to Google, the Census Bureau, The Encyclopedia Britannica, Wikipedia and Cityscape. But also, he warns, the city list, while very complete may not represent the locations as well as some other local names, like the counties and small towns. For example, Milford is also known as Granite Town, and Keene is also Elm City, and Derry is referred to also as Space Town. And these are just a small sampling of the alternative names that should be included once we have the time to post them. For now, we’ll go with just the most common city names, but as mentioned above many of the smaller towns are not listed along with some of the counties. Here are the 10 counties that really should be represented here but are not: Belknap. Carroll. Cheshire. Coos. Grafton. Hillsborough. Merrimack. Rockingham. Strafford. and Sullivan. Roger would like the management to consider providing more funding so that a more complete list of the names of the geographically significant areas are all included for every state.
